This is something I cannot muster the courage to try… Or ever will. Not this and definitely not the scorpions!

One of the greatest things about Thailand is the vast amount of coconut and coconut flavoured things but all made from coconut milk so it’s deliciously dairy-free.

Koh San Road

Busy, bustling and backpackers. This is like Time Square, Asian style. Neon lights, ping pong show offers, beer towers and second hand smoking, there is no chance of anyone staying close by sleeping from the blasting party tunes. But it had to be done.

Okay, sorry this is slightly turning into a food blog, but everything is just so delicious, strange, interesting it’s hard not to post it. This was another tom yum, obviously this time clear. A Thai couple ordered it for me because I liked the look of it (they were also eating it) and out came pork rib soup. Pork, I am okay with… I had prepared for meats of all kinds over here, but as some know, bones I am not. This soup was delicious don’t get me wrong; lots of coriander and ginger throughout, but the bones were much more tricky than imagined in soup form. But here is another new thing I’ve tried, going with the advice of “eat as many weird and new things as possible”.

Breakfast in Bangkok

I honestly thought I’d be having noodles and pho for breakfast. But here it is; a bowl of mango, extra ripe pineapple, dragon fruit, rockmelon, watermelon, and mangosteen (a new fruit as sweet and delicious as a lychee)

Found out last night that for the entire time I’ve been here every time I thought I was saying “thank you” in Thai…I was actually saying “hello”. And here I was thinking people were smiling at my efforts…

This city is cocoNUTS

The traffic is insane, people wanting to sell you things left right and center, huge amounts of wealth and gold and horrendous amounts of poverty. The weather here makes it hard to explore for hours on end but the fruit is cheap as chips. 1 dollar for a bag of mangos, or this coconut, 1.50 for a kilo of mangosteens (!!!). I feel like its all I buy but it’s too hot to feel like eating much else!
